PSYCHIATRIC DAY HOSPITAL 
 

LOCATION: Chestnut Ridge Day Hospital, Morgantown, West Virginia

STATUS: Elective 

OBJECTIVES: 

1.  Assess patients for outpatient day hospital or inpatient psychiatric treatment;
2.  Work with multidisciplinary treatment teams which include a physician, nurse, therapist, and administrator. 
3.  Become familiar with the various therapies involved in a multidisciplinary approach (medical, individual, group, art, faculty, and experiential). 
4.  Become familiar with both the chronically mentally ill and more acutely ill patient populations.

METHODS TO ACHIEVE OBJECTIVES: 

Students will participate in the assessment and evaluation of adult  patients. Participants will be assigned responsibility for assessing designated patients,  developing plans of treatment and execution in accordance with a team approach.  Participants will be responsible for appropriate documentation in the form of write-ups and progress notes. Participants will attend daily treatment team meetings and therapy sessions.

EXAMINATION PROCEDURES AND EVALUATION CRITERIA: 

Daily observation and evaluation of write-ups and progress notes.
