Hosted by the Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, the WISE conference featured live case demonstrations transmitted from WVU Medicine J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, leading-edge lectures, expert debates and hands-on workshops. The program provided a unique opportunity for physicians, trainees, advanced practice providers, nurses and industry partners to learn from leading experts while showcasing WVU Medicine's advanced endoscopy capabilities.

A special highlight of this year's meeting was the inaugural William Hutson Memorial Lecture, titled "Endohepatology – The New Frontier," and delivered by Anand Sahai, MD, of the University of Montreal, a world leader in endoscopic ultrasound and endohepatology. The late Dr. Hutson was a professor and division chief of Gastroenterology and Hepatology for the WVU Departments of Medicine and Surgery.

The event also welcomed a distinguished group of national and international faculty who partnered with WVU Medicine to further its mission of delivering outstanding care and education to West Virginia and beyond. Among the distinguished global leaders in attendance was Nageshwar Reddy, MD, of Hyderabad, India, founder and chair of the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology, one of the world's largest and most advanced centers for gastrointestinal care.

"The success of WISE reflects WVU Medicine's growing leadership in advanced therapeutic endoscopy and its commitment to bringing cutting-edge innovation, education, and specialized care to West Virginia and the surrounding region," Shyam Thakkar, MD, course director of the WISE Conference, said.

<a10:updated>2026-06-08T13:15:09-04:00</a10:updated>

Department of Medicine hosts Research Day 2026

The Department of Medicine at the West Virginia University School of Medicine hosted its Annual Research Day on Tuesday, May 26, at the Erickson Alumni Center in Morgantown.

<a10:updated>2026-06-08T11:15:25-04:00</a10:updated>

School of Medicine announces faculty promotions for 2026

The West Virginia University School of Medicine recently announced the faculty promotions for 2026.
