During the event, Matthew Dietz, MD, department chair, shared an update on the department's vision and strategic direction, highlighting growth and future initiatives.

The reception took place at the National World War II Museum, offering attendees a unique setting and opportunity to enjoy a performance by the Victory Belles – a 1940s-style vocal trio. One of the performers is the sister-in-law of Felicity Fisk, MD, a WVU Medicine orthopaedic surgeon, adding a personal connection to the evening's entertainment.

In addition to current faculty and alumni, six WVU residents attended the AAOS meeting, including Jakub Ratkowski, MD; Jennafir Ernst, MD; Caitlyn Patton, MD; Vincent Morrow, MD; John Pisquiy, MD; and Brody Fitzpatrick, MD. Each resident presented at the meeting, showcasing the department's strong academic presence.

<a10:updated>2026-03-26T12:51:04-04:00</a10:updated>

WVU SOM professor receives national recognition for career dedicated to orthopaedic research

Bingyun Li, Ph.D., professor for the West Virginia University School of Medicine's Department of Orthopaedics, recently received national recognition for his decades-long career dedicated to orthopaedic research.

<a10:updated>2025-12-02T15:45:12-05:00</a10:updated>

WVU School of Medicine offers increased opportunities for residents and fellows through expansions to GME programs

As medical students around the country participate in interviews to determine where they will complete their specialized medical training, the West Virginia University School of Medicine recently announced increased opportunities through expansions to several graduate medical education programs.

<a10:updated>2025-11-21T13:15:45-05:00</a10:updated>

Department of Orthopaedics emerges as a leader in national clinical trial to advance patient care

The West Virginia University Department of Orthopaedics recently announced that it received recognition for enrolling more than 1,100 patients over six years into a nationwide study aimed at investigating an evidence-based approach to preventing pulmonary embolisms—a potentially life-threatening complication following surgery.

<a10:updated>2025-11-04T15:02:02-05:00</a10:updated>

WVU Medicine Orthopaedic Surgeon Performs One of the First Stryker Mako 5.0 Robotic-assisted Hip Revision Surgeries

A WVU Medicine orthopaedic surgeon is one of the first in the country to complete a robotic-assisted hip revision surgery with a tool offering precise customization that leads to better patient outcomes and recovery.

<a10:updated>2025-08-12T09:45:55-04:00</a10:updated>

WVU in the News: Keep your stride in line with these podiatrist-recommended shoes for overpronation

CNN Underscored, Dr. Aabha Suchak was consulted for expertise.

<a10:updated>2025-07-29T11:25:54-04:00</a10:updated>

Bone Health Optimization Program Reaches Major Milestone

Great work is happening across our organization – and one standout example is the early success of the Bone Health Optimization Program, launched in January 2024. The best advice Dr. DelBello has received was to "take an hour per day to do something outside of medicine." This has allowed him to build healthy habits and hobbies outside of work and be a better person and clinician. Some of these hobbies include running, cooking dinner with his wife, eating out with friends, and playing intramural soccer.

When Dr. DelBello studies, he uses the Academy's resources to help him develop his skills as a resident. In particular, OITE, ROCK, and ResStudy have been helpful as they are quick, easy, and provide in-depth detail for clinical scenarios.

<a10:updated>2024-05-28T12:56:05-04:00</a10:updated>

WVU's Department of Orthopaedics represented at World Speedskating Championships

Pictured with Dr. Moeller (left) is Anne Hinley, ATC, Head Athletic Trainer, US Short Track Speedskating (center), and Carlijn Shoutens, MD, Orthopaedic Surgery Resident, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, Former Team USA Long Track Speedskater and Olympic Bronze Medalist (Right).

<a10:updated>2024-04-24T10:38:12-04:00</a10:updated>

High school females get hands-on orthopaedics experience at WVU's Perry Initiative event

More than 30 young female high school students were able to work alongside West Virginia University orthopaedic clinicians and educators to participate in a transformative experience at the School of Medicine through The Perry Initiative.

<a10:updated>2024-01-31T10:43:04-05:00</a10:updated>

WVU Medicine Orthopaedics celebrates record number of patients, fifth anniversary for office-based hand and upper extremity surgery

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – WVU Medicine Orthopaedics saw a record-setting 600-plus patients in 2023 for its office-based, wide-awake hand and upper extremity surgery program, which is also celebrating its fifth anniversary.

<a10:updated>2024-01-26T14:02:33-05:00</a10:updated>

WVU in the News: WVU Medicine using power tools and fake bones to get more women in orthopedics

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.
