Sweet began his career at WVU as a clinical pharmacist in 2002. After completing an infectious disease pharmacy residency, he served as a pharmacy clinical specialist in the quality department from 2009 to 2013. In 2013, Sweet assumed the director of quality role until 2019, when he became assistant vice president of quality. He also served as the acting chief quality officer from 2019 to 2021. During his tenure, Sweet achieved many critical patient safety milestones, including implementing a new organizational safety structure across the WVU Medicine departments and programs. Sweet received a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from West Virginia University in 2001 and is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality.
